Summer's Bounty and Family Fun on Routes 5 & 20 A Great Combination

The summer harvest season along Routes 5 & 20 between Skaneateles and Batavia is in full operation. Visitors and residents can take full advantage of getting the freshest produce at the local farmers' markets held in the villages that line the route.

"Going to a Farmers' Market is like experiencing an old-time market day, when farmers came to the center of town to sell and residents came to buy and socialize," stated Moe Koch, Director of the Seneca County Office of Tourism. "It's like a mini-fair great food, good company and always entertaining," Koch added.

In Skaneateles farmers gather at the Skaneateles Community Center on Thursdays 3:30 to 6:30 pm from mid-June through October. The Auburn Farmers' Market is held on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 7:30 am to 2 pm on Genesee Street on the north side of Wegmans.

Sauder's Market, located at 2168 River Road, about ΒΌ mile west of Seneca Falls, hosts local farmers on Fridays from 9 am to 3 pm from July through October. The Cayuga County Cooperative Extension sponsors the Waterloo Eat Well Farmer's Market on Wednesdays from 9 am to 2 pm in the parking lot behind shops on southwest Main Street.

The Geneva Farmers' Market is held on Thursdays from 7:30 am to 1 pm in the Exchange Street Parking Lot across from the Lyons National Bank. In Canandaigua the weekly farmers' market is held on Saturdays from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm behind the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce building on Lafayette and Main Street.

Tuesdays from 3 pm to 6 pm the Lima Farmers' Market sets up shop at the intersection of Routes 15A and Routes 5 & 20. The Genesee Country Farmers' Market, held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8 am to 5 pm in the K-Mart Parking Lot on Route 63 in Batavia, brings together farmers from four counties.

"A visit to a farmers' market is just one way to experience the agricultural bounty of Routes 5 & 20," state Kelly Rapone of the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce. "There are also lots of farm markets, road-side stands, and u-pick operations," Rapone added.
